{"id":22576,"date":"2020-10-28T13:02:20","date_gmt":"2020-10-28T17:02:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.eztaxreturn.com\/?p=22576"},"modified":"2023-06-05T13:54:42","modified_gmt":"2023-06-05T18:54:42","slug":"5-signs-youre-getting-scammed-while-shopping-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.eztaxreturn.com\/blog\/5-signs-youre-getting-scammed-while-shopping-online\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Signs You\u2019re Getting Scammed While Shopping Online"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Better Business Bureau<\/a>, the biggest scams of 2019 involved online purchases.\u00a0 Most of the time, consumers paid for goods and services they never received.\u00a0 They were commonly duped while trying to buy clothing, home goods, and medical\/nutrition products.\u00a0 Here are some ways to spot an online shopping <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Internet_fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scam<\/a> so you won\u2019t be the next victim.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-the-site-isn-t-secure\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The site isn\u2019t secure<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before entering any personal or financial information, make sure the website is secure.\u00a0 If it is, the URL will begin with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/HTTPS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https<\/a>\u201d instead of \u201chttp\u201d.\u00a0 Most browsers also use a closed padlock in the address bar to show that the site is secure, and the connection is encrypted.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-spacer\" style=\"height: 30px;\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-the-domain-name-is-suspicious\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The domain name is suspicious<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some scammers try to be slick and use a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Domain_name_scams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fake domain name<\/a> that\u2019s similar to a popular legitimate website.\u00a0 A few years ago, a bunch of fake Pandora jewelry websites popped up promising steep discounts of up to 70% off.\u00a0 All of them were scams.\u00a0 People either lost their money or received fake jewelry.\u00a0 With most companies, the domain usually matches its brand name so always double check the URL.\u00a0 Stay away if there are extra words or letters.
