Most taxpayers who requested an extension of time to file their 2019 tax return must file today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those filing today who also owe taxes should pay as much as possible to reduce interest and penalties. The extension of time to file is not an extension to pay. Taxes must be paid on the original due date to avoid any penalty and interest charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are a few resources on IRS.gov to help last-minute filers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/filing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Filing for individuals<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This page includes a link to IRS Free File, which is available through today. IRS e-file is easy, safe and the most accurate way to file taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/payments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paying taxes<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taxpayers should visit IRS.gov\/payments to choose a payment option. They can pay online, by phone or with their mobile device and the IRS2Go app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/payments\/view-your-tax-account\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Viewing account Information<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Individual taxpayers can visit IRS.gov\/account to view their taxes owed, payment history and key information from their most current tax return as originally filed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are some groups who still have time to file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Members of the military and others serving in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/combat-zones\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">combat zones<\/a> typically have until at least 180 days after they leave the combat zone to both file returns and pay any taxes due.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taxpayers in federally-declared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/tax-relief-in-disaster-situations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disaster areas<\/a> who already had valid extensions may have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/businesses\/small-businesses-self-employed\/disaster-assistance-and-emergency-relief-for-individuals-and-businesses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more time to file<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>More information<\/strong>:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/help\/ita\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Interactive Tax Assistant<\/a><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/individuals\/tax-withholding-estimator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IRS Tax Withholding Estimator<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Source: IRS.gov<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is the filing extension deadline.
