{"id":22072,"date":"2020-06-26T16:59:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-26T20:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.eztaxreturn.com\/?p=22072"},"modified":"2023-06-05T14:24:45","modified_gmt":"2023-06-05T19:24:45","slug":"hurricane-preparedness-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.eztaxreturn.com\/blog\/hurricane-preparedness-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Prepare for a Hurricane"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Atlantic_hurricane_season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\">Atlantic hurricane season<\/a> is underway and will last until November 30<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 This year, experts are predicting the season to be more active than usual.\u00a0 They believe there will be between 13 and 19 named storms.\u00a0 Therefore, it\u2019s important to be prepared especially if you live along the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_coastline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\">U.S. coastline<\/a>.\u00a0 Here are some tips to help you prepare for a hurricane.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-determine-your-risk\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Determine your risk<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some areas are more prone to flooding than others.\u00a0 So, enter your address into <a href=\"https:\/\/msc.fema.gov\/portal\/home#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\">FEMA\u2019s Flood Map Service<\/a> to determine your risk level.\u00a0 This can help you decide the best steps to take to keep you, your family, and your belongings safe.\u00a0 Many standard homeowner\u2019s insurance policies don\u2019t cover flood damage.\u00a0 Therefore, it\u2019s a good idea to get federal flood insurance if it\u2019s available in your area.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-pack-an-emergency-kit\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pack an emergency kit<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s not uncommon for hurricanes to cause structural damage, rip up trees and knock out power in the area.\u00a0 Therefore, you need to have an emergency kit filled with necessities in case you\u2019re stuck at home for a while.\u00a0 Items you\u2019ll need to prepare for a hurricane are:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Enough water to last at least three days (that\u2019s about a gallon a day per person)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>At least a three-day supply of nonperishable food<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Flashlights and extra batteries<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Battery powered radio or hand-crank radio<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>First aid kit<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Sanitation and personal hygiene items<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<h2 id=\"h-develop-an-evacuation-plan\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Develop an evacuation plan<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t wait until the last-minute to come up with an evacuation plan.\u00a0 The best time to prepare for a hurricane is long before it strikes.
