{"id":21963,"date":"2022-02-03T15:59:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-03T20:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.eztaxreturn.com\/?p=21963"},"modified":"2023-06-04T17:07:33","modified_gmt":"2023-06-04T22:07:33","slug":"5-habits-that-weaken-your-immune-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.eztaxreturn.com\/blog\/5-habits-that-weaken-your-immune-system\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Habits That Weaken Your Immune System"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your daily habits play a huge role in how your immune system functions.\u00a0 Ideally, you want to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Exercise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exercise<\/a> regularly and minimize stress.\u00a0 Washing your hands often also helps you stay germ-free.\u00a0 If you find yourself constantly getting sick, some of your lifestyle choices may be to blame.\u00a0 Here are some habits that weaken your immune system.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"getting-less-sleep-than-your-body-needs\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Getting less sleep than your body needs<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most adults need at least 7 hours of sleep to function properly.\u00a0 While you\u2019re asleep, your body produces a protein called <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cytokine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cytokines<\/a>, which is used to fight inflammation and infections.\u00a0 People who don\u2019t get enough rest are more likely to get sick.\u00a0 Chronic sleep loss can also increase your risk of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cardiovascular_disease\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heart disease<\/a>, diabetes and stroke.\u00a0 If you\u2019ve been struggling to get a good night\u2019s rest, here are some tips that can help you sleep better.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Go to bed and wake up the same time every day, even on the weekends.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Invest in a comfortable mattress and pillow.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Keep your room cool, dark, and quiet.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Exercise daily but not close to bedtime.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"poor-dental-hygiene\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Poor dental hygiene<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having poor <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oral_hygiene\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dental hygiene<\/a> increases your risk of pneumonia, heart disease and can affect your body\u2019s ability to accept insulin if you have diabetes.\u00a0 To properly care for your teeth and gums, you must brush with a fluoride toothpaste twice a day for at least two minutes.\u00a0 Plus, you need to floss your teeth every night before bed.\u00a0 It\u2019s also recommended that you visit your dentist every six months for a professional cleaning.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"consuming-too-much-alcohol\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Consuming too much alcohol<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the pandemic began, online alcohol sales have gone through the roof.\u00a0 We understand that you may be running out of things to do at home, but binge drinking isn\u2019t the best solution for your boredom.\u00a0 For the record, binge drinking is described as 4 or more drinks at a time for women and 5 or more for men.\u00a0 Drinking excessively increases your risk of getting sick.\u00a0 Not only can it weaken your immune system, it can also lead to high blood pressure, digestive problems, stroke, dementia, and cancer.\u00a0 To minimize your risk, it\u2019s a good idea to reduce your alcohol intake to 1 drink a day for women and 2 for men.\u00a0 Or, you can cut it out completely.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"smoking\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Smoking<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 480,000 people die in the U.S. every year due to cigarettes.\u00a0 Smoking is the number one cause of preventable deaths.\u00a0 It can cause cancer, lung diseases, stroke, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis.\u00a0 If you want to live as long as possible, we suggest kicking the habit because smokers tend to die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"not-drinking-enough-water\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Not drinking enough water<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you don\u2019t want to get sick, make water your best friend.\u00a0 The goal is to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses per day.
