it doesn\u2019t work out and they actually end up losing money.\u00a0 Here are some ridiculous get rich quick schemes people still fall for.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-the-nigerian-prince-scam\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The \u201cNigerian prince\u201d scam<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last year Americans lost over $700,000 to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Advance-fee_scam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Nigerian prince scams (opens in a new tab)\">Nigerian prince scams<\/a>.\u00a0 How it works is you\u2019ll receive an email from a \u201croyalty member\u201d claiming they urgently need your help transferring a portion of their fortune out of Nigeria. \u00a0In return, they promise to give you a large sum of cash.\u00a0 Those who agree to help are asked to provide their bank account number or pay a fee to cover the taxes.\u00a0 Ladies and gentlemen, no wealthy person is going to trust you, a complete stranger to keep their money safe.\u00a0 They\u2019ll leave that to the professionals.\u00a0 What will happen is either the crook will disappear with your money or they\u2019ll drain your bank account.\u00a0 No matter how you slice it, they win and you lose.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-ponzi-schemes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ponzi schemes<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to investing, stay away from anyone who promises to get you high returns with little to no risk.\u00a0 Chances are it\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ponzi_scheme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Ponzi scheme (opens in a new tab)\">Ponzi scheme<\/a>.\u00a0 None of the money you fork over will be invested, instead it will be used to pay earlier investors.\u00a0 To keep the cycle going Ponzi scheme organizers must always be on the hunt for new investors.\u00a0 When it gets hard to find fresh meat or too many people attempt to cash out, the get rich quick scheme unravels, and you lose your money.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"h-pyramid-schemes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pyramid schemes<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pyramid_scheme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"pyramid scheme (opens in a new tab)\">pyramid scheme<\/a> is a sketchy business model where participants make money by recruiting other people to join.\u00a0 They can either be naked or product based.\u00a0 In a naked scheme, there aren\u2019t any products to sell.\u00a0 Commonly the recruiter just tells you about an amazing investment opportunity you need to be a part of.\u00a0 Product-based schemes are often disguised as a sales opportunity except the items are usually things nobody wants to buy.\u00a0 Hence, why the focus is on bringing in new people to make money.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In both cases it starts with a single person on top who recruits 10 people to work under him.\u00a0 Each person is required to invest a certain amount of money to join.\u00a0 To make their money back, each new recruit must bring in 10 more people to invest.\u00a0 All participants are required to give a portion of their profits to the person who recruited them.\u00a0 Eventually the scheme collapses because they can\u2019t raise
