You can file as single, married filing separately, married filing jointly, qualifying surviving spouse, or head of household.&nbsp; Only choose head of household if you are unmarried and pay more than half the cost of running a household for you and a <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.eztaxreturn.com\/blog\/who-can-i-claim-as-a-dependent\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=filloutW4&amp;gid=filloutW4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dependent<\/a>.&nbsp; Your filing status is important because it determines which tax credits you qualify for, your standard deduction amount, your filing requirement, and how much taxes you\u2019ll pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-2-account-for-multiple-jobs-or-a-working-spouse\"><strong>Step 2: Account for multiple jobs or a working spouse<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This section is for people who work more than one job, or file a joint tax return with their spouse who also works.&nbsp; If there are only two jobs total and they pay around the same amount, you can just check box in option (c).&nbsp; However, you will need to do this on the other W-4 as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-step-3-claim-your-children-and-other-dependents\"><strong>Step 3: Claim your children and other dependents<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This step estimates the amount of your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eztaxreturn.com\/resources\/video-child-tax-credit.html\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=blog&amp;utm_term=filloutW4&amp;gid=filloutW4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Child Tax Credit<\/a> and the Credit for Other Dependents for your future tax return.&nbsp;
